table cells stretching???

I set absolute widths and heights to the cells (matching the sizes of the images exactly) and they're STILL stretching, revealing the background color. ???????

The table widths are still 100% so far as I can tell. That's probably your problem...

The problem is the layout of your HTML rather than anything that it's doing. Your code looks neat, but because your closing table cell tags are on an indented line, the browser is interpretting it as though you want a space there. Consequently, the cell contains your graphic + a space.

I've changed the layout of your code to show you what I mean. It's not perfect, but it does the job. I've also taken out the hard-coded cell sizings too to show that they're not really necessary.

See what I mean.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I went through all that stuff first and it was only when I'd eliminated all that and still hadn't found the answer that I remembered that I'd had the same problem myself some time ago
