I was just about to post this question, when I come online and find another forum, even more appropriate to it!

Whenever I right-click on my desktop and then click on "New" a list of possible file-types come up. However, a lot of these file-types are for programs that I have uninstalled. Thus I don't want them to come up. How do I get rid of them?

I've been dying to know this, too! Anyone have a solution? A lot of the softwares I download annoyingly stick a link in places I don't want them.

Why does the word 'Registry' keep nagging at me......

You can install TweakUI and remove these shortcuts (as well as do a lot of things), or edit the registry manually. I am not sure exactly where you'd go in the registry, but I'm pretty sure you'd be able to run a search and find them. Good luck

Go here : http://www.regedit.com/downloads/ and Download "Microsoft TweakUI" (UI = User Interface, this is one of the MS PowerTools, search microsoft.com to find them all) this is the most recent version. Install it, then open the Control Panel and open TweakUI there will be 13 Tabs, go the the "New" one. Uncheck the ones you don't want to use, and press the remove buttons for the ones you no longer have the program for.

There's a Template folder which contains the templates you find under 'New'.

    In Windows 2000 it's under C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Templates

In Windows 9* it's probably somewhere in the 'Windows' folder.

Remove (or add) a template and it's done.
