Without wanting to get into a heated debate, I'm really interested to hear your rationale behind this.

From my perspective, removing signatures is a stroke of genius. It automatically negates the majority of the people that misuse the forum in order to get signature exposure.

Discourse does allow you to have a link to your site in your profile, so theoretically people will see your posts, decide that you are knowledgeable or interesting, and check out your profile. That is how signatures are supposed to function, but they have never really worked like that.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I haven't tried setting it in preferences, but you also have the option of setting it per thread as you visit, and that does work. There are even keyboard shortcuts to do it, so it's very little hassle.

Recent testing indicates that you will still get Notifications for
    if someone @ Mentions you
if one of your posts is Quoted
if someone sends you a PM
if someone Likes one of your posts

When you Mute a Category you will not
get Notifications of new Topics made in it
Topics made in it will not be included in your email digests (if your email settings are on - the default)

As TechnoBear said, Topics can also be Muted individually

    Sheer laziness.

I know that there are people who abuse sigs. Esp with multiple links. I'm not one to do that. I just do like I currently do, here. My 'sig', with maybe a small description.

I would certainly not complain if sigs were allowed but were set up to strip out all HTML, scripts and images.

Having to click the mute select every time I post - annoying. Even with a kb shortcut, having to remember to do that before clicking the submit button is not what I would consider 'user-friendly'.

Also, why offer something in "Preferences" if said preference is going to be ignored? Or only applies to certain circumstances?

I've submitted a feature request to the Discourse team to offer the ability to disable or hide notifications, although I'm pretty sure it's going to be ignored, since there most likely won't be enough users complaining about it. But cpradio helped me to apply (at least for Firefox - which is cool coz I avoid IE unless the site/app requires it) a custom stylesheet to not display the notifications. It seems a bit hackish to do it, that way, but it works!

It definitely is, but it gets you the results immediate versus waiting for it to happen

It would require two people to deliberately conspire in order to hide a post, and even then, the post is only hidden temporarily. At that point, if it was clearly a case of abuse, the OP could get in touch with a staff member, who will be able to see who has flagged the post and for what reason. At that point it can be reinstated with no harm done.

I should have added that you have to reach a certain 'trust level' in order to have the ability to cause a post to be hidden, so you'd have to have invested some time into the community first.

TL;DR There are lots of checks and measures put in place to ensure that it isn't abused, I've just dumbed things down a bit for the sake of this thread.

Hey, notifications is very important for me, at least. I don't want to soend time searching for new post replies, that's what really annoying. I'll appreciate if notifications wouldn't be deleted.

    Thank you!

No problem, we definitely will not be removing notifications. We'll just try to find a way for those that don't want them to be able to turn them off.

I haven't read the thread replies so apologies if this has been covered, but my email address is not up to date, and I have no access to the email on this file since it's been YEARS since I've used it and do not remember the password. What can we do @HAWK ?

LMAO.......... Yeah,, and with the change from what everyones use to,, to the Discourse Platform,, your going to see maybe a little more than the norm.

As with any new thing like this everyones going to have a learning curve to deal with. I've been on Discourse's forum getting use to it,, theres still allot of issues that are being worked on,, personally, I'll stick to my old IPB forum "BUT!" I fully understand why this site is having to make the change..
