    Hey gang...

I am looking at getting a new Vcard as mine (V3 is on the outs I think) . The only card that is really in the running is the Ge-Force 2 MX. The performance of a regular GeForce 2, but with less power (I think)

Anyone have any comments or suggestions? I want the most bang for my buck. The monitor that this card will be pushing is a 19" KDS Avitron. It should be at least 32 megs (or more) and I would like to spend less than $200US.

    Any thoughts?

I have a Geforce256 which I got for $125 and I can tell you that it is **** fast. I can max my monitor out and get perfect refresh rates in Quake3 (I haven't measured it though.) I think any GEforce is **** fast. And no matter what those 3Dfx weenies say, you can tell the difference between 32 bit and 16 bit.

A Geforce is an excellent value and I highly recommend it.

    Is your card AGP?

I've got a Voodoo 5 5500. Its awesome, I absolutely love it - especially the real-time antialiasing. The card is so huge and powerful it requires it own power hook-up from your power supply and it's about 18inches long. Cost: ~ $300.

I have a ATI AllinWonder 16meg 128 bit that gets reasonabllly good ratings on 3dbenchmarks.

I would recommend a ATI card, becuase the one i have runs great.

ATI VCards are absolutely the worst card you can have for games, unless you buy the Radeon

That's what I am confused about.

The Radeon is an ATI Card, but you contradicted yourself....

Unfourtunatly (for you, anyway) I got mine at the offline Fry's (and this weekend I bough an 8x DVD player for $60 and MI:2 for $11). The only reason I got it was that I had a gift certificate. I originally got a TNT M64, but it really stunk. Don't buy one. (And it would randomly loose sync and go to a black screen, but that's a different problem.) The one I ended up getting was above my usual budget, but is awesome. It's a (sp wrong I know) Gullimot Prophet256.

[edit: the card is AGP. The difference in speed is nominal is most circumstances so if you don't have a slot don't fret.]

[ also I don't care for ATI too much either. Their 2D is fine, but 3D is lacking (except for the Radon which is excellent, if expensive.) Stick with 3Dfx or Nvidia (or the Radon if you get an excellent price), at least for now.]

PS> I think those stars in my previous message are pretty funny.

Owen...I have no problem spending the $$$. Well I don't have the cash (so that is a problem) but I would rather spend a little more and know that I am getting top quality (that's what I meant).

That is the reason why I originally bought the VooDoo. It was the best card for the $$$ that I had at the time. The prophet is a little more than I want to spend ($300 or so). That is why the GeForce2 MX is what I am looking for. It gives almost the same performance (from what I have heard and read), with a lower price tag (about $150)

Aaah I only spent $125. I think they have a higher powered model now with a faster chip than the one I have. Check out http://www.anandtech.com for overly comprehensive reviews of just about every major graphics card.
