Tahoma?

I really like Tahoma as a font and I was wondering if anyone knew of any issues with it displaying in browsers incorrectly? Has it become a standard font on different platforms?

I believe Tahoma is a True Type font which is standard on any Windows machines. Not sure about Mac tho???

Tahoma is standard on Windows, and I believe it's also installed on Macs with MS Office. Here's the font list I tend to use Tahoma in:

body {
  font-family: geneva, tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
}

People will get Geneva first (not a Windows font really), then Tahoma, then the alternate fonts if those aren't installed.

I love Tahoma also, first time I saw in DHTML menu builder( www.xfx.net ) as default toolbar font.

I prefer Verdana over Tahoma, altough similar to Tahoma it is easier to read since it has higher kerning.

I think thats 90% of windows, not 90% of all platforms. For Apple it doesn't appear in the list, which means that Tahoma is installed on less than 78% of Macs.

Geneva is a good alternative for the Tahoma-less in my opinion, and it's installed on all Macs by default .

The page I linked to is a cross-reference that is not specific to the three platforms (Windows, Mac, *nix).

The Macintosh specific results are here and state that it is installed on 60% of all Macintosh computers.

True. However, not too many fonts are installed by default on *NIX systems. Maybe Luxi Sans as an alternative if Geneva and Tahoma aren't found?

Hmm.. Base installation of Suse Linux 8.2, installed over 300 truetype and type 1 fonts on my PC. That is more than Windows does by default.

Well this can be a bit of misleading factoid. It may be the fastest growing marketshare but is still probably not not a significant percentage of the actual user market.

Regardless... Tahoma is a nice font face and a lot like Verdana or arial. I don't have it running on my Mac at work, or home and I am not sure if it is 'on' on my PC at home.

By the way, I love Tahoma too, but for all fonts I use, I provide alternative fonts, not only because of OS/Browsers support, rather because of my paranoia about users who delete fonts on their machines!
