    Just going through Novice Ninja ... slowly.

    Get a warning: "The phpMyAdmin configuration storage is not completely configured, some extended features have been deactivated. To find out why click here."

    All OK except at the end:

    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['users'] ... not OK [ Documentation ]
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['usergroups'] ... not OK [ Documentation ]
    Configurable menus: Disabled

    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['navigationhiding'] ... not OK [ Documentation ]

    The "Not OK"s and "Disabled" are in rted so I am concerned!!!

    I'm not familliar with those particular errors, does clicking [ Documentation ] offer any insight?

    I do know that phpMyAdmin is included with many "localhost" packages, and it is included in many "live" site control panels.

    When I installed it on my localhost, I used default settings eg. user = "root" password = ""

    For localhost for me, this isn't too much of a concern. phpMyAdmin showed me a big red Security message.
    If this was a live site, it would be a major concern.

    Anyway, if this is for a localhost development set-up, and you're relatively sure it will be only you using it, it's probably safe enough to ignore any "security" messages.

    As for the SitePoint Search problem, it might have been a coincidental 502 error. What search terms were you trying?

    @Mittineague ; Sorry should have said thanks - the "problems" are still there. One, if I remember correctly, was a real prob and I fixed the others just call to me and I gnore them - so far with no probs and not the documentation was not a lot of help! (Hope the @ worked BTW!)

    Yep, it worked. You're welcome.

    As I said, as long as it's localhost and you're the only one using it the security warnings can be pretty much ignored - though you should figure out the reason before you do anything on a live site.

    And keep the others in the back of your mind so if your code isn't working as expected you'll remember them as a possible cause.

    Other then that, there's plenty enough to keep you busy learning.

    Hi, give this a try (you'll need to be logged into phpMyAdmin using a user which has privileges to create databases, tables and to grant privileges):

    1)

    Code:
    CREATE USER 'pma'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'pmapass';
    2)

    Code:
    GRANT USAGE ON mysql.* TO 'pma'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'pmapass';
    GRANT SELECT (
        Host, User, Select_priv, Insert_priv, Update_priv, Delete_priv,
        Create_priv, Drop_priv, Reload_priv, Shutdown_priv, Process_priv,
        File_priv, Grant_priv, References_priv, Index_priv, Alter_priv,
        Show_db_priv, Super_priv, Create_tmp_table_priv, Lock_tables_priv,
        Execute_priv, Repl_slave_priv, Repl_client_priv
        ) ON mysql.user TO 'pma'@'localhost';
    GRANT SELECT ON mysql.db TO 'pma'@'localhost';
    GRANT SELECT ON mysql.host TO 'pma'@'localhost';
    GRANT SELECT (Host, Db, User, Table_name, Table_priv, Column_priv)
        ON mysql.tables_priv TO 'pma'@'localhost';
    3)

    Code:
    GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE ON phpmyadmin.* TO 'pma'@'localhost';
    4)

    Code:
    -- --------------------------------------------------------
    -- SQL Commands to set up the pmadb as described in Documentation.html.
    --
    -- This file is meant for use with MySQL 5 and above!
    --
    -- This script expects the user pma to already be existing. If we would put a
    -- line here to create him too many users might just use this script and end
    -- up with having the same password for the controluser.

    @SpacePhoenix ; Huge apologies been fighting the good fight with code that does not behave itself and have consequently disappeared down a rabbit hole. I have tried various things and cannot remember if I have tried this.

    Think I will go for a clean install in a couple of days and give it a bash then.

    Once again sorry for my slowness and thanks for your sterling effort.
