    Question Website Stats Program?

How is everyone doing? I am in the process of rebuilding my website. I was going to use a Blog, but I decided to just build a full, hopefully well thought out website.

My question is what free stats program do you all use for your website. Should I use sitemeter, freestats, etc? I don't want to pay a monthly fee for a program like webtrends.

    Thanks In Advance

I tried a few and ended up sticking with extreme-dm.com's tracker. It's just a small black square image, so not intrusive, and I like the reports it provides.

What's in the reports that you like so much?

The referrers list is separated into top 50 referrers over the entire tracking period, or last 20 referrers, last 20 search engine referrers, last 20 search engine keywords used. And all links are clickable so you can quickly do the same web search or see a referring website. Since referral tracking is the main reason I use a service like this, it's useful to have things easy to read and useful.

That's a web log analyzer though, so you're gonna need a web log, and you won't get stats like screen res, javascript support,e tc.

Webalizer (http://www.mrunix.net/webalizer/); if you don't want to spend any money, that's the choice. If you want to keep track of your ads, then perhaps you can use something like phpAdsNew (http://www.phpadsnew.com/one/) while you run Webalizer. You can also read this article to get an overview of traffic analysis http://www.sitepoint.com/article/808.

I like, and use Extreme Tracker. Never had any problems with them. They force you to put a little black 41x38 button on your site.

Good stats, and not intrusive at all.

the choice of ur stats prog depends on whether u want any detailed reports on who's visiting ur site or not.
If all u want is just a hit counter, u can better build ur own or download one of the many available on net in various langs. one place 2 look is http://www.hotscripts.com

If your webhosting support log files use Web LogExpert Lite.

It's free and giving enough information with a good and simple GUI.

Also if you pay some "Expert" version is much better.

If you webhosting doesn't support log files you can try ASP or PHP based stats.

www.aspin.com is a good place to find free ASP stat applications for ASP.

I use sitemeter they provide lots of info except you have to display a logo but I don't really mind because I leave my stats open to the world and encourage visitors to look at it.

you can get a paid version which has lots of features look at my stats on sitemeter

Someone already posted this, but you really should check it out.

There's only one line of code to add (no javascript!), and there's no image that pops up on your page. It keeps track of (all?) you referrers, letting you sort by frequency or last visited. It also tracks browsers used, platform, and screen resolution. It doesn't track individual IPs, but it DOES feature this nifty map that sorts IPs by time zone. There's also a nifty traffic monitor, which dings everytime your site gets another hit. Best of all, it's completely free and open source.

http://www.gostats.com/ - I like this because it displays a list of the top search engine referrers and the top keywords people used.
http://www.acestats.com is also good as it is very quick and easy

I use the free Power Phlogger from http://www.phpee.com/ and it gives you tons of great information. It requires php/mysql but is fairly easy to set up and install on your own server.

Actually, it's really configured to allow people to create their own stats hosting program - so if you take a look and like it I can set you up with a free account with no buttons or any junk to display on your page.

My webhost offers a few log analysis programs too and I like using AwStats to check up on things quickly - so check with your host and they probably offer some options as well.

    Cheers,

well, you can also use the counter from www.Bravenet.com. You can choose from a range of counter images or choose a hidden counter. It provides you with all the stats that you'll ever need. & besides its free & all you have to do is put 2-3 lines of HTML code in the page that you want the counter on.
All you have to do is register at Bravenet.com & you can have 3 different counters for an account but you can register as many times as you want & also with each account you get a lot of goodies like 100MB web-space, photo album, your own classifieds service, guestbook, chatroom, etc.
Also you can choose your stats to be private(to be viewed by you only) or public(anyone can see them).

    Do give it a try.

    Hello,

Don't most hosting accounts come with built-in stats?

We use them. The stats are ok, my only thing about that is there isn't alot in the "overall" kinda statistical analysis. We also use them for our guestbook, and that's actually not bad and I kinda like it - geeky though it is.

What else do you want from a free stat program?? If you are one of those geeks who crunch numbers by the giga byte then that a different case isn't it??
But I'd say that the Bravnet site is better than ever now with new counter images & new features etc. Come now, which site on internet provides you with all these features as Bravnet on internet except ofcourse Bravnet??
