    Installing MySQL under Windows XP Pro

    I've just installed MySQL 4.0.14 and try to start it.

    Installed it in c:\myssql
    I've edited the my.cnf in the root of my C drive

    MySQL starts and without any warning stops again. I've tested the on-line status with telnet localhost 3306 without response. Changed the portnumber, used all flavours of the MySQLD's. Registered it as a service (same behaviour). Read the manual back and forth, I'm fresh out of ideas!

    This is my first experience with opensource. Please help me keep the faith! Thanks!

    I've installed the 4.0.14 under Windows 2000 server and it works like a charm. Others have succesfully installed 4.0.12 on Windows XP, so something probablyu went wrong with the update. Damn!

    try renaming your my.cnf file -> my.ini
    and moving it to your windows directory
