Insert action in one table affect other tables?

    Hi,

I would like to know does the insert operation in one table affects or slows down the performance (select queries) of other tables?

    Thanks,
    John

All activity has the opportunity of affecting other tables -- simply because they all take CPU time and one 'expensive' transaction can CPU starve all the other ones (unless you set up limits on CPU time per statement etc.).

Also, any JOINs to that table may be affected depending on your DBMS.

Generally if you have ample CPU and disk bandwidth and the inserts are small (e.g. not inserting 30,000,000 rows) you shouldn't notice it.
