What Technique(s) Should I Use?

Hi- Attaching image to help w/ question

Want to create following as opening for home page: the drafting lines and marks will reveal as being handdrawn- followed by quick back and forth brushstrokes, top to bottom of lamp. Back ground will be transparent.

Have been dabbling w/ gif animation but before I get too much deeper would like to know what approach and technique I should be spending time with for best look, file size etc. Should I be thinking about vector graphics? Also would appreciate any links to tutorials/threads where I might pick up some pointers.

Note: jpg att is for demo purposes. Envision final look as having fewer and stronger lines.

If you know Flash and have the program, this would be the best tool for this job.

I agree Macromedia Flash is probally the best choice for what you would like to accomplish. ( http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/ )

If you don't have/can't afford flash there are other "flash-like" programs that produce similiar results.

Swish is probally the most popular Flash like program:

TX- Have played around w/ text in apps that have Flash features but do not own Flash iself. Will look closer at these progs (Coffee Cup FireStarter and Kool Moves Flash Editor) as well as Swish. Not in financial position to buy Flash for this one project. Will go over to Flsh Forum to see what I can pickup. I take your word for it that Flash is the way to go, but what would be the main problem w/ doing it w/ a GIF animator?

Flash would probally produce smaller file sizes than an animated gif. And after learning flash, your project would be easier and quicker to accomplish in flash, IMO.

I might suggest too using a great little Vector app called XaraX. Does animation easily, including blends (tweens). Is VERY easy to learn/use. Extremely fast, and a very small installation. And can Export your animation as a Flash movie as well.

And it only costs a fraction of Flash.

This is not to take anything away from Flash. I just want to offer another alternative for A_sim_L_8r that wouldn't cost an arm-&-a_leg.

PS: checkout Xara's Gallery... it'll blow your mind what this tiny little Vector app can do.

Flash most definitely, but I'll have to look at that XaraX.
Good luck!
