    Personal Website Review

    Hi all!

I am completely new to web design and development and started a project during my break because I was bored. Initially I wanted to just make a personal website show casing some of my projects (I don't really have many) and having a little about me section. However, now that I have something tangible I really want to perfect it and make it presentable. I want to be able to put this site on my resume and have employers see it hopefully. Could your guys please give me some tips on how to make it better visually and content-wise? Thank you so much!

    My site: mason.gmu.edu/~mahmad15/MyWebsite

My preferences are for a minimalist, dark-themed website.

Nice idea. Your content is not getting that much visibility. you can use blur or less opacity backgroud behind your text. Your text color is white so use some dark colors for text bg. It will give rich look. and try to give proper space for contact page. Because your project page is colliding with your contact page. Place your content as possible as in justify alignment. Reduce the font size. I think these all gives great look to your site.

Overall nice design for a personal website, but if you want my advice I would change following things:

    1. In footer “Thank You For Visiting!” seems a bit off, in footer you can put something like links or put your Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram profiles link
    2. Below Contact Me Via “OR” seems a bit huge and bold.

Change that red color for sure. It's so bright its burning my eyes and its barley legible. I suggest maybe choosing a duller red and maybe using a bolder type since its over the wood paneling texture.

I would also up the line-height on all the paragraph text, it all seems so crammed. Usually people go 125-145%.

You have a broken image on there too, fix that.

Make those boxes responsive they're extremely narrow on my screen.

The contact me and linked in button is gigantic compared to everything else on the website.

Really overall, I'd work on the typography and sizes of everything. Everything seems inconsistent. Colors aint too bad,

    keep it up.

Good idea but too much empty black space. Can you bring the bottom content up and more together?

    Hi,
Nice idea and overall design is good. Add more good images. Rest of design is good.
Please share if you want more information.
    Thanks.

in my point of view, it's not user friendly at all...you should put more text on the first page of your site....

    I like the minimalist approach.

Image link needs to be corrected.
    Code:
     <img id="website_image" src="http://s30.postimg.org/93ygzwpk0/website.jpg" draggable="draggable">

I would make the Contact portion a bit taller so that the black boxes from the Projects were not visible. I would also make the email form transparent so that is has the same background as the rest of the page.

I find the giant blue-green OR: is a bit distracting.

I would add a copyright to the footer as well.

Judging from just the home page, I don't see many links at the navigation bar might want to add some more content to your website especially on the "Home" page since there will be many others that judge that page more than others like I did. Take my advice, and I think you'll do alright.

I think the alignment is not good, why you place the LinkedIn logo on the right side white space.

In my opinion, it's good to start as personal website, but you can improve.

First, you use to many different colors, red - light blue? Use only one of them (red seems to be better).
I can't see image on Website box.
Change color of background splitting homepage in sections (about me, projects, contact).
Use jQuery to add some cool effect like "one page site".

On my screen, I saw a message "Welcome To My Website | Mohammad N. Ahmad". Never use text "Welcome to my website" and “Thank You For Visiting!” ”because this is not relevant for the visitor .
So the whole screen contains one little rule that is not important to the visitor. To know what the website is about, I must scroll down.

The left block missed the image "website.jpg"

under projects your first picture does not load and under contact me maybe try and centre it out a bit more along with the thank you for visiting. personally i think the background changes too many times from top to bottom, i like how your top links anchor to the specific parts of the page.

    I like your design!

You've a nice big header, but currently it only has the text that says: "Welcome To My Website | Mohammad N. Ahmad". You can add some related graphics or may be a big pic of yourself as a background to make it more appealing. A real pic of yourself will also help build trust with your clients.

    Thanks!

It's cool. Black background great choice and I'm glad to see you chose it. I have one suggestion for you, improve the look and feel of the main page. You can add impressive images or video to make it valuable.

Not too bad. Just a few of my notes, although I'll be just repeating what has been mostly said:

    * I'm not a big fan of the tiled background. I think sticking with the wood would make it look more modern. (Just make it fixed so it doesn't scroll with the page.)
    * As someone above said, I would remove the text in the footer and either put links to your Twitter/GitHub/Facebook etc or just remove the footer.
    * I would make the IDs jump1, jump2 etc more descriptive; it will look better when someone shares a link that goes to a particular section, for example: mason.gmu.edu/~mahmad15/MyWebsite#about-me
    * And this is just nitpicking, but I really don't like the "home" button icon, it just looks too squished to me. Just a personal preference.
    * And while I'm nitpicking, I would probably make the background for the This Website/Code/Android Apps "less black", something more like #2d2e30 or a bit darker - just not pure black.

Nice looking website, it`s warm, but could do with some improvements: the home button is ugly and too big, the white text plays tricks on your eyes, so a black 40%transparency background would be great; the same with the bottom widgets, add some transparency to the black background. the top section :wood looks good, but feels kind of empty, it needs something there, maybe move the picture there, and make it round, something like the Skype logo. Overall , the structure of the theme makes me think of parallax websites

    Hi there,

I have just checked out your site and for the most part I liked what I saw.

A few things I'd like to point out that i wasn't the biggest fan of:

    - the buttons at the top, when hovered over, have a weird hover effect where they balloon up a little bit, and off to the right. Perhaps you are trying to do too much when the simple color change would do the trick (you did say minimalist)

    - enhance the size of the text in the middle of the top of the page, where you say welcome to my website. Also, the red text color chosen for your name doesn't contrast well with the dark background making it hard to read, and making the "welcome to my site" more prominent, making your name seems secondary.

    - Your contact me section is unorganized, i didn't see the contact form first, I noticed the very large OR and the linkdin symbol, perhaps cleaning that up would help it out.

    - Not a fan of the aqua blue. I would go for a flat site with solid colors and minimalistic layout with dark and pastel type flat colors - but that's just me!

I reload it many times before I saw your page Within seconds of landing on your site, I would like to understand what the product is, and who it is aimed at.

I think the website needs more content. I think you could come up with more about yourself. Talk about what brought you to America, your experiences at an American college, why you like it here, how long you plan to stay and why. If you are going to use this for a future employer think about what they may want to ask....but may not ask. I know at my work we hired someone from Pakistan. My boss was nervous because he was only in the states for a couple months and all his family was back home in Pakistan. We asked him a bunch of questions about "WHAT" brought him to America and why to make sure he wasn't going to just stay with us for a few months and then leave. (although, anyone could do this, not just someone from another country) He has been with us for 5 years and has made a great addition to our team. Just a thought.

I think the font you chose is a little hard to read. I do like you how put a little comical edge to your bio - shows your personality which is good. Have you worked anywhere else? What are you learning in school besides computer science that really interests you. Also, dark sites are popular but you really have to be careful with the other colors you use. Make sure they are the correct contrast.

    Good luck!

I think It's a great idea what you have going on here, for what you are trying to do at least. I see room for improvement though. Just keep adding new things and updates as time goes on and I think It will evolve into a great personal website to put on your resume.
