Can you review my productivity and technology blog?

    Hi all,

I write about productivity, technology and entertainment on my blog www.workreadplay.com. I attract regular traffic and am increasing my readership. However, I'm not attracting enough email sign-ups, and I am thinking of changing my WordPress theme.

Before I do this can you tell me:
Can you navigate around my site?
    Is the colour scheme ok?
    Is the content engaging?
Can you see any typos or glaring mistakes?
    What works and doesn't work?
Do like the visual direction of the site?
What can I do to improve my site and increase subscribers?

    Theme recommendations are also appreciated.

BTW, my preferences is for minimalist websites that push content forward and make it easy for readers and visitors to find and enjoy content.

    Thanks

Honestly, I think the color scheme is very nice. I'm personally not a big fan of the font for the titles of your post and think something a bit thinner would look more... "minimalistic". The content, isn't really that engaging though, sure it appeals to a small audience, but I think you could have more (for example tim berners-lee's internet bill of rights). Things that prompt discussion and raise questions. Hope that helps!

Agreed. That layout has a tremendous amount of wasted vertical space. The only thing that display on my monitor on page load is the logo, menu, and the title of the first post.

Very clean and professional design. In terms of content you could crowd source content, so the contents submitted will be diversified and exciting.

Can you navigate around my site? Yes, easily.. i like how you can close social on the right side of the screen.
Is the colour scheme ok? Yes, very neat. I would put a static faint/blurry background where the dark gray is, but what it is right now is fine too.
Is the content engaging? No comment.
Can you see any typos or glaring mistakes? No, i don't see any typos
What works and doesn't work? Site works ok
Do like the visual direction of the site? Sure yes.
What can I do to improve my site and increase subscribers? More original and engaging contents.

    Good luck!

Can you navigate around my site? Yes
Is the colour scheme ok? Yes it is very nice except for the red navbar? Doesn't seem to fit with the rest and not enough contrast for colorblinds
Is the content engaging? Yes but I would offer more than a small paragraph on the teasers
Can you see any typos or glaring mistakes? None that I can think of
What works and doesn't work? Articles seems interesting but I am not too sure about the quotes, they don't seem to be "articles"
Do like the visual direction of the site? Yes, but I would maybe compress the articles blocks so that we don't need to scroll as much. Also, add a Latest Articles or Trending Topics near the top.
What can I do to improve my site and increase subscribers? I think you have more than enough social widgets and you use hashtags in your articles links. All good!

It has a clear lack of "what about the site is" when i come to visit it. It's almost basic as a defaut wordpress theme, i think you need to add a bit of more content.

Add sidebars with Facebook box showing your fans and twitter followers, add some ads, get a better logo, make the whole thing look like a magazine specialized in technology rather than just a random blog.

Is the colour scheme ok? Theblack banner background does not go well with the main back ground, try different color, how about light a color?
    Is the content engaging? Yes
Can you see any typos or glaring mistakes? No
Do like the visual direction of the site? Somewhat,

I really like the design, I think the colour scheme works well, its a nice clean design, good use of whitespace. I like the subtlety and overall feel of the website, it loaded slightly slowly for me (google chrome). I think the navigation could be lowered slightly to come inline with the logo.

The big pic at the start is bad - it's the first thing you see so it's not obvious what it's about. Also the social buttons seem to load in the centre of the page, annoying. Beyond that it looks like a billion other blogs out there.

Why? What's wrong with them? For a review to have any value, you need to explain things clearly and suggest in what way you think improvements could be made.

What I feel is your present layout or theme has lot of empty spaces and it should be utilize for some other things.

The site needs bigger fonts that pop on headers. I would say that there is actually too much white space on this site. You need more content.

I like your design and layout very much, it looks nice and professional.
Since I have to find something to pick on, it has to be the red on black in your footer makes my eyes a bit hurt.

I also get the following error in the console, in chrome:
Uncaught SecurityError: Blocked a frame with origin "https://platform.twitter.com" from accessing a frame with origin "http://workreadplay.com". The frame requesting access has a protocol of "https", the frame being accessed has a protocol of "http". Protocols must match.

Also, noticed you could adjust your image size/media query a bit, se screen shot

everything seems perfect except the thin column that shows the posts in your blog. expand it and move the popular posts widget further down.

It's a good looking website and any critique I can honestly give you is just nit picking.

That being said, the first thing I would change is your font. Your website follows a minimalistic approach, yet your main content font is serif. In my opinion, minimalist themes look best with sans-serif fonts. The fact that your titles fonts are sans-serif further adds irregularity to your minimalistic theme. At the very least I would have both of the fonts the same type (serif/sans-serif), or even better; just have one font for the whole site.

    Hope that helps.

Your site is looking very nice, Its colors are too attractive, It is blog based site. It would be better for you if you change its layout and make it user friendly for browsing it. It also lacks sitemap.

"Can you navigate around my site?":

Yes, I can, however, header is too big and takes a lot of space which makes your website less "readable".

    "Is the colour scheme ok?":

Kind of, I don't like high contrast between white and black colors (header and main section or footer and main section). Try chaning black to #101010.
Also noticed that logo has background, background makes logo less compatible for changes.

    "Is the content engaging?":

Yes, it's quite interesting, however, when you wrote:

    productivity, technology and entertainment
I thought it would be something more like reviews and sharing thoughts. In reality, it's something slightly different, elaborate it.

"Can you see any typos or glaring mistakes?":

I attract regular traffic and am increasing my readership.
    Yes, I see
However I didn't saw them so far on your blog.

    "What works and doesn't work?":

Are you talking about the stuff on your blog or the stability of your website?

"Do like the visual direction of the site?":

Personally, some of the elements of your website looking annoying. Like clipped "Search this website..." input.

"What can I do to improve my site and increase subscribers?":

Checkout the "fatality" and read some articles about usability. This question should be answered by yourself, because you know more about what your audience

    And finally, "fatality":

    Good luck!
