Tons of features, which are new, and now have been apart of vB, for close to a year now. Some of the stuff they call unique have been incorporated in vB2, and some of their "innovative features" are already available in vb3 with better functions.

No problemo. I may be newbie to XML, and promoting a website, but I have been at the community scene for awhile, and I use various boards even now. vB tops all in my list for my and seems to withstand my server. I actually saved 1000$ USD in 6 months, after moving 3 well traffic sites of my clients over to vB.

DrkFusion, thanks for the breakdown! I guess I will go with vBulletin... it comes with a price tag, but I guess it is worth it. Heck, all the "big, good" forums use it anyways... and plus I know toher people have mentioned it and I myself find that I look differently at a company who is willing to spend some money on other apps to help run their site!

That's a good point sdesigns. There's a pretty good thread on this forum regarding if free forums make your site look less professional. The verdict is still out on that debate.

To me I think most of your typical visitors don't have a clue that phpBB or IB are free. All they care about is the ease of use, it's speed, possibly the look of it as well.

If your site is geared towards those in the web business though, you're probably better off spending a little cash up front. The thing I think works the best with vB is the email notification and the tracking of new posts to topics you're subscribed to. They outshine the competion in that category.

Best of luck with your decision,
    Palmer

    Before you toss out vBulletin.

About a month ago there was a major porn spam attack against boards all around the world.

vB was ready and had already issued an update to the board. (registration using a graphic - bots cannot read the graphic).

If you do not have a lot of protection and methods you will be pestered by every jerk on 6 continents.
Ask your short list of vendors what they do to protect themselves.

In the beginning there was mention of vB and then the comment about the budget of 80 bucks...etc.

But you are or have made a choice you will not regret.

Others may have been good as well. But I have vB and love the quick update when they move to a new version and the peace of mind with the anti porn.

Sorry to come in late and comment out of turn.

    peace
