Getting on a Press Release List?

Yay, I have launched my community news/forums site. Now I need a steady stream of content. Any tips for getting on to Press Release list?

    Thanks,
    Jamie

    Hey Jamie

You say "community news/forums." Can you be more specific?

    Hi MMI,

It's for my local community. Probably of interest to people within a 50 mile area with a population of 400,000. Here is the site http://www.pensacola.cc

I have been doing research, but most news wires are only for submitting press releases and not receiving them. Although PRweb.com does have a nice system.

This is the introduction I have been drafting:

Please add media@penasacola.cc to your press list. http://www.pensacola.cc/

Pensacola.cc is Pensacola's newest online forum. We offer a place for Pensacola residents to come together and discuss issues affecting our area.

We also post quality news items and calendar events on our site. To generate more interest you can include a color photo with your news item. If you have a website, we will also link back to your site.
You can register with our forums and post your press release directly in our announcements forum. Pensacola residents can then ask questions related to your press release! This is a great way to interact with your customers.
    Thank You,

    Jamie

I ran into this same problem a few years ago. Luckily I knew a few people in the marketing/PR/comm. biz and asked them for copies of their lists and then contacted the contacts. You can also check through other resources similar to your own; I've found alternative weekly papers seem to have the best selection of events, but ymmv. It may require a lot of leg/phone/fax/email work until you reach a critical mass where people seek you out.

Good luck & let us know how it goes!

Yeah, I looked around for a few minutes and couldn't find anything (doesn't mean much).

This might not help, but have you tried asking for ideas around town:

    http://www.pensacolachamber.com/

    http://www.ci.pensacola.fl.us/cityha...ts/ustick.html

    http://www.downtownpensacola.com/

You might get some leads on some leads on some leads.

Maybe just call a local tv station or newspaper.

A quick look at the gov't listing and I did not find a library calendar.

So a call to the library or libraries in the area to find if they already post and can you get a hard copy of the events if they do not.

Churches are always looking for ways to get their events published.

Schools and pta groups, girl and boy scouts. In San Francisco we have a district council of merchants (there are about 30 merchant associations. Politics, Democrat, Republican etc and when they are doing what.

What about garage, tag, yard and estate sales. These are one-off things. A low budget way would be to put a small tear off in laundromats, coffee shops and other bulletin boards.

Hospitals do health screening days and anti smoking clinics.

This is something I am working toward and it is a pain. But I want them to put it on my site in their words, so I ask for text that is ready to cut and paste. One local hospital does this for me and that is what goes to my eMail and 20 local newspapers. Now I am nudging them to post directly.

We can talk about that if you like. But online would be best for me.

    peace
