    WindowsXP Style Icons

Anyone know where I can find some cool looking xp style icons?

Basically the kind I'm looking for would represent a database, reports, servers, nodes etc.

It's preferable that the size be no bigger than 20x20, but if it's larger, I can always try to resize them.

    Thanks

    Hey Defender,
If you find some Mac icons on icon factory, there is a way to convert those to XP. If you run across this, let me know and I'll post a link for the instructions on converting.

Hrm... didn't see one that I could use to represent a database.

Know of any specific images that I could use for that?

Found pretty much everything else i need though, except for something to convert them to png/jpg/gifs

Oh, it's not what I expected. I already had a similiar program. It's called Microangelo and it's pretty cool too.

I've seen some product demos that have something to do with databases (and my hosting control panel as well)...

My hosting control panel actually uses a briefcase-type thing (how do you associate that with a database? lol..) but I have often seen filing cabinet things, which I think resemble the idea of a database fairly well...

what are you using these icons for?

A data repository site i'm building at work.
Unfortunately, my icon making skills have always been a bit lacking

What I was looking for as far as the database icon was 3 circular harddisks on top of each other.

Hmm, the only thing about looking all over the net for the various icons is that its likely they won't look alike.. heh. unfortunately I haven't seen what you're looking for, but if I do, I will let you know!

A little off note, but in curiosity, are you allowed to use the icons for free in your own program?

Icons, just like images are copyright... no?

Are you allowed to just take them and use them in your own program?

In answer to your question sdesigns, the designer usually has specific guidelines for using their custom icons which are listed on their website. In most cases, if the icon is a free download then the designer's only request is that the icons aren't redistributed or sold.

It is always best practice to contact the designer if you are unsure about their copyright.

Defender, I haven't had any luck finding specifically what you are looking for, but if you like, I can try to create one for you. My icon design skills are not mastery level but I can certainly give it a try. I have the tools to do it.

    URally: okay

you can also contact the designers themselves.. I've gotten in contact with the foood guy and he is really nice. I am sure you could get him to make you a database icon... if not for free, then I am sure you could get it done at a VERY affordable price!

You can find some really cool icon sets at www.kde-look.org including some meant to mimic Windows XP. Since these are for KDE they range in size from 16 X 16 to 128 X 128 and all of them are in PNG format. They should give you something you need for your project and all should be GPL or under some other free license.
