Is Sitepoint's PHP/MySQL book any good?

I read reviews for the first edition and got pretty bad reviews. I'm curious about the recent revised edition. Anyone have it?

My Freind found best php book in the entire WORLD! its called "PHP- Your Visual Blueprint for Creating Open Source Server-side content"

If you buy it, which you should, you'll be proficiently programming php in no time... I seriously recommend it!

I purchased the book a few weeks ago (along with their CSS book)

I was pleasantly surprised by the delivery time, and the quality of the actual bindings. Although I extremely enjoyed and benefitted from the CSS book, I did not find the PHP book as helpful. The last few pages dealt with some advanced topics I might find useful, but the most valuable part is probably the reference.

If you are coming from zero knowledge of PHP, but an understanding of programming principles, this book will certainly helpful. If, however, you have already mastered the basics, I found this book lacking somewhat in the advanced material the title suggested.

There is a pretty useful thread floating about somewhere on the forum, can't locate it now, but it should be easy to find.

I think it is very good. I just started writing PHP/MySQL software a few months ago, and had never used any other similar languages or DBs, or ever built a web site. It has helped me a lot. I found a larger fraction of it to be useful than most computer how to books I have bought.

Not designed for an expert, but very useful if you're starting your first PHP/MySql project. Well worth the money - quality writing - and don't forget to download the source code.
