Hi,

Could somebody please help me, here is my problem:

I'm trying to setup a home network with two computers, one is using linux (act as server) and the other is using windows 2000 pro. All the drivers are detected but however I'm unable to configure both systems to have them communicates.

Could some one please help me or guide me to some where for help?

How do you have them setup currently?
What IP addresses did you assign?
Which one is the "server"?

The server is the one with Red Hat Linux v4.2 installed. The client is the one with Windows 200 Pro installed.

I assigned the following IP addresses to the server:

IP: 192.168.2.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway (IP): 192.168.2.254
Primary nameserver: 192.168.2.1

I set it up by using a 10baseT cable connect directly from the server to the client.

Here is my problem:

I can ping the IP address (192.168.2.1) at the server site but I can't ping this IP address at the client site.

Windows unable to connect to server computer.

What are the IP details of the client?

If you're connecting from one computer straight to another, you need a crossover cable. (CAT5 with a couple of the wires switched; just go 2 your local cable store and ask for a Crossover Cable CAT5)
Try it with one of those and see if it works.
