    Creating my own voting script

I want to create my own voting script, and I need some ideas on how to start it and what it should include. The reason I ask, is because everytime I start a project... I remember of other features which should be included and I have to implement them later on which is a pain.

Could someone give me the basic structure on how a voting system should work and what it should include? Thanks.

Do you want these polls to be user defined, admin defined, or fixed?

Well, if it's features that Darin's lookig for, wouldn't all of these be options?

I say the option to vote, maybe add a comment along with a vote (but then it's moving towards forum software rather than a stand-alone poll). Decide whether people can vote once or multiple times, and how you're going to police that. IPs, cookies or both. How do you want to store the data, Flat-file, database or an option for either?

Even something as simple as a poll, if you want to do it properly, should take a lot of planning and there is a fair bit involved.

Also, will you be creating it in boring PHP4 or exciting, shiny new PHP5??
