need advice on what to use for site

i'm attempting to start up a site for my community that will have a plethera of different things on it for the surrounding area. i want to have area's where users can submit things like weddings, events, businesses, etc. etc. that will automatically put the info on the site w/o me having to manually input it. the site will be very similar to somd.com. if anyone could help me out w/ either some advice or some scripts like this that would be awesome...thanks!!

MySQL database, all you'll ever need for something like that. Or maybe SQLite, whatever comes with the PHP distro you download

If you want a script for that, have a look at PHP-Nuke, see if there are any MODs specifically for weddings.

i know how to make forms...im just not very savvy with MySQL and PHP...like i can make my way around code pretty well...i just can't write it from scratch...so basically i guess the only script i need is one that will put the info from forms into a database and then a script that will call the data from the database...and as simple as that sounds i just don't know how to do it...

Well, No better time to learn.

Check out Kevin's articles right here on Sitepoint:

You can skip the first couple if you know a bit of PHP already. Some more good sites to get some tips:

Otherwise, yeah, just use phpnuke or a similar app. There are a couple around.
