For creating any new website, its not mandatory to know what operating system others are using.

You have to make website user friendly and can be assecible to all OS's

Your question is a bit vague. Try to say a bit more about what you want to know so that people can provide more help. Are you asking about web hosting (which might run on Linux or Windows, for example) or are you asking what operating system people use on their own computers?

If you want to know the market shares of the different mobile operating systems, you'd better search that info with a search engine.
    For example I found: http://venturebeat.com/2013/10/31/an...stest-growing/

Collecting details for what? Like I said to another question you posted, if you want to know market shares, you'd better try googling for it. Ten or twenty people telling you here they have Samsung, Iphone, Blackberry or whatever can't possibly be of any use to you?

    I agree with Guido.

I'm fine with giving you the brand and OS of my mobile but I fail to understand why I should do it. Maybe if you could explain yourself better and a bit more detail, and you asked a bit more nicely, I'd be more willing to provide you with that information.

"I'm building a website. Mention your phone brand. Mention your OS and version" sounds kind of agressive to me.

Opening 2 or more threads to request related information is a bit annoying too

While searching for market share statistics is better than asking here, if this is for a site you have I think the better thing is to collect statistics from your site. i.e. the site's actual users.

If you are only collecting data to create your own market share statistics why not start a poll at a site that specializes in hosting polls?

Only thing which matters for websites is compatibility with browsers. You can host and build a website in any system, and visitors can also use any system (same or different), and everything is ok as long as they use compatible browsers.
