Students uploading photos

Not sure if I've come to the right place to ask my question, but I'm willing to give it a shot...
I run a non-profit organization that teaches people how to make media. We're about to start a digital photography class and want to add the ability to our website for the students to upload their pix for the public to see, similar to the photo sections in yahoo groups. Are there any low cost/no cost resources that this group could point me to?

Well, this one is free. It is somewhat confusing to install as the instructions are half in German. It requires PHP/MySQL, and a graphics library like GD 2.0

If you are willing to install a forum system like phpBB then you can install a photo modification which I've found to be excellent. It offers many features such as categories and permissions. You can view a demo here: http://smartor.is-root.com/album.php
