    I guess a little competition never hurt anyone, but this type of domain acquisition seems to border on the extreme.

    Com registry abused its power and violated agreements with icann last year, and resolved nonexistent domains to some ppc sites. They were making millions every day, cause people mistype urls's all the time.

    sorry if this is a stupid question but do you not need to factor in the cost of domain registering? It's still very profitable though according to the figures..

    You're right. This is a very effective way of getting targeted traffic and generating additional income.

    I have been using expired domains to fuel my own companies for years, although not on the scale mentioned in the article.

    That's my 2 cents worth.
