    Which Chat program?

I need to set up chat on a site in a shared hosting environment. As such, the program must be resource-friendly in a standard Linux setup.

I'm testing the chat script which comes with cPanel. I looked thru the last year of threads here and didn't see any discussion of chat scripts or software...

The chats will be recurring scheduled events where readers can chat with authors, which are a popular feature in the book industry. Need to be able to accomodate say at least 30 chatters, and possibly a lot more if it takes off.

What alternatives do you recommend? I will probably be installing vBulletin later, so its chat would be an option if good.

    Thanks,

I've heard that the chats in cpanel can be resource intensive.

We're using raidersoft. They offer a paid version, or a pro version for $75 per year. It can be integrated with vBulletin, too.

We used to use digichat and our members prefer it, but it is an expensive program.

Web Crossing chat's apparently quite good. Never used it myself (except as a chatter) but I've had good reports.
