    Problem when using DocType - javascript errors

    I've been working on a new website design and thought since I've been reading Dan's book (Deisgning Without Tables) I'd create the layout completely in CSS and design it to validate for HTML and CSS.

    Well, well into the design now I have a serious problem. I'm using OpenCube's DHTML QuickMenu for my navigation and when I include a DocType in my document the menu goes nuts!

    <removed>

    You can look at the source code... the only difference is the doctype tag at the top. Without the tag, it won't validate but the menus work. With the tag, it goes nuts.

    Does anyone know why this is happening? If not, does anyone know a good DHTML menu that will validate at least as transitional?

    Thanks from a CSS layout newbie

    It looks like it's taking the rollover state from the script to be absolutely positioned from the top of the page, rather than from the menu: DQM_sub_xy = "0,0"

    You might need to play around with that setting a little bit to get it right. You could also try the brothercake menu, which is a bit more configurable in terms of drop down positioning, to the extent that it will work across frames, though there's a license to pay for commercial sites: http://www.brothercake.com/dropdown/

    That quickmenu is really old anyway, I think I'm just going to use something else. They haven't updated it in forever... and the paid version is $150. I'll use static links until I can figure out what to use. Thanks for the info!

    From what I saw of the JS code, it looks like it's a very old rollover system anyway (only tries to get IE and NS). I'd look for a more cross-browser solution .
