    database and scripting language choice

I've had experience building a few small data-driven websites in php/mysql and I'm about to embark on a project that will require an extremely large database and I need to be able to search it very quickly. I was wondering if mysql would be the database of choice here or if I should consider using another database for my task? What would be the advantages of using another database over mysql? What are the disadvantages of using myql? Also I need to know if php is up to par or if I should use another scripting language. I appreciate your replies.

Hmmm. Chances are PHP and mySQL could handle it, but because of PHP's non-OO (object oriented) approach, you might find things a little difficult. For really big projects, I'd recommend ASP.NET and MSSQL.
