    phpMyAdmin password

    Hi,
    I had the following problem:
If I want to access to phpMyAdmin, I simply browse the page from localhost.
If I try to change the password of root (host:localhost) I can't access anymore to the phpMyAdmin page, because the access page is enable for the user root (host:localhost) with no password, and I don't know where and how access with the new password.
    Thank You in Advance
    Fausto

Have a look in the main phpMyAdmin directory for a file called config.inc.php. Then look for the lines...

    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = '';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password' = ''

This will let you set it for any user with any password.

    Cheers.

    Hi, Thank You very much...
but I have another little problem...
In this way if I change the $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password' instruction and the password itself, everybody (working in the server PC) can have access to phpMyAdmin simply clicking from localhost.
I need to limite the access to phpMyAdmin by a password. I mean that if somebody try to access to phpMyAdmin, is always required a password in order to access in.
    Do you know if it'possible?
    Thank You in Advance

In the same file, look for

$cfgServers[1]['auth_type'] = 'config'; // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)?

    Change that to

$cfgServers[1]['auth_type'] = 'http'; // Authentication method (config, http or cookie based)?
