    simple(?) expanding menu???

Ok, im trying to make an expanding menu in javascript and getting nowhere, i want like...

    link
    - sublink
    - sublink
    - sublink
    - sub-sublink
    - sub-sublink
    link
    - sublink

    etc..

now i am fairly experienced in programming with PHP, so dont need help on prgoramming concepts, just i havent a clue where to start with js, i tried the tutorial on sp ( http://www.sitepoint.com/article/134 ) but ironically the javasscript doesnt seem to work on it, i also found a tutorial at spoono ( http://www.spoono.com/tutorials/java...llapsiblemenu/ ) but it doesnt really explain anything, can anybody help? I could use PHP, but that means i have to reload the page every time, which is slightly irritating.

    thanks in advance

Perhaps this or this can help.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I was sort of hoping for a tutorial of sorts, i can copy+ paste (the first one is what i want to do) - but I want to understand it - its hard to find a tutorial that EXPLAINS what is happening, like document.getElementById -- what is getElementById ?? or... this.parentNode.style -- whats parentNose? you see what i mean :/
