    Reprogramming To Javascript

    Sitepoint Members,

I have a site with stationary columns. Every time a different page loads it reloads the columns. I came across this site
    http://entitycode.com/

I can't believe how smooth and fast the pages load from page to page (e.g. click "currency"), although probably partly because there's not much text on the pages, but it doesn't reload the column it has. Would I look for a javascript programmer if I wanted my html site like this site? Are there any drawbacks to the programming language for this site?

    Thanks,

    Chris

That's not going from page to page. It's just one page. All the content is loaded when you first visit the page, but most of it is hidden by JavaScript until it's needed. That's why it seems so quick. So what you really have here is content organised on the page in tabs, which is a pretty common thing to do.

I guess that set up is only for sites with short pages and few images.

    Thanks Ralph!

Yes and no. If you want a guarantee that there will be no delay when the user clicks the content will all need to be in the original page. However, if you don't mind a small delay you can use Javascript / ajax to load the content from the server. That way you can have as much data as you want available end the entire page will never be reloaded, it'll still look smooth & modern.
