Well, today I went to pricewatch.com because I am going to build a game server and I was checking on prices. Lo and behold the ram prices I saw have dropped 70% since the last time I was there and are at a now unbelieveable 30 cents per megabyte. You can infact get a 256mb sdram pc100 chip for less than $90.

Yeah, I check a online vendor in Canada (www.ncix.com) and have to say that it's so good! RAM price was used to be around 120US$ for 128MB when I bought it about 2 months ago

Oh man, gotta get another 128MB now
    Thanks aspen!

The price of memory is excellent these days... noticed that Krex.com is selling 128MB SDRAM (PC133) for $69 right now... simply amazing compared to prices several months ago.

(Off subject but while I was browsing Krex.com I also noticed a DVD drive for $67... might want to check it out if you're shopping around for one )

    Any reason why?
I am considering a 30GB HDD, and a webcam too, any good deal on those

Yeah the reason RAM is so cheap is that the factories in Japan destroyed in the last earthquake have reopened.

Supply and demand. There is more supply now than demand.

    Thanks Wayne,
So guys, according to my ECON 101 Microecon I took 8 mo ago! , you should try to buy RAM as soon as you can before the price goes up to equilibrium point where supply meets demand. Demand for RAM are increasing!

This is not a pernament situation, unless new technology in RAM making is introduced/applied

Hey, those ECON courses are pretty useful eh!

I'm not sure how good their prices are, but you ought to check out www.crucial.com.

It is basically a directory of computer stores cheapest price listed first.

I know crucial, they have good RAM (Micron I think!), but the price is not very competitive!
And I don't know if pricewatch.com will have any vendor in its list ships to Canada, aspen?
Agree that it is a cool listing!

Just checked pricewatch.com, they has nice feature telling that the vendor will do business internationally!

And there is a huge different between generic RAM and brand one (almost double!)
Too bad my mainboard could only get up to 256MB, and only 2 banks (and i having 2 blanks filled!) What a bad luck at this time!

This sounds really silly, but I assume RAM from the US or Canada would work in a UK machine?

PC parts are generic these days and should work anywhere.

The cheapest that would ship internationally was $91.47 for 256MB PC133 - the only thing is you need a PC that will take 512MB Dimms for it to work (I know it's a 256MB Module but because it is high density you need one that will take 512MB Modules).

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh ! (satisfaction scream)
    For once i can criticize W.Luke !

Well not much of a critic, but factories destroyed by the earthquake were in Taiwan, not Japan...

In the topic now, are pc100 SDRAM compatible with 133 Mhz motherboards ? I'm a total newbie when it comes to hardware...

    Shin Ma,
Sorry to see that your question left unanswered for such as long time.
Anyway, have to see the manual to know exactly, or ask the support staff, with little information, I can't say for sure, but first check if the mobo has any 168pin bank for SDRAM or just 72 pin for EDO RAM.
http://www.tomshardware.com is also a good place to upgrade your system.

If your processor is running at a 133MHz bus speed then using 100 RAM is not a very good idea..it will probably work but its overclocking and not very good for it.
However, using 133 RAM on a board/CPU running on a 100 bus will work fine, that's what I'm doing now

Oh hell, when first saw the post of Shin Ma, I though his processor, and not his mainboard bus!
So for sure it would work, back-compatible.

James, PC133 works on PC100 mainboard bus? I thought I would not.

I remember when RAM was really expensive about half a year ago. How the times change. Well anyway, Onvia has 128MB RAM for $49.99...

I brought 128 MB of additional RAM yesterday from Crucial.com. It should be here on the 28th and it costs $71 bucks. I only have 64 MB now... will this make a huge difference? I am anxiously hoping so! And was my decision of Crucial.com good?

It should make a pretty huge difference. 64K is really insufficient. You'll have a lot less use of virtual memory.

Yeah, crucial.com is a pretty good place to buy RAM that matches your pc.
And yes, you'll see a great boost.
I'm having 192 now, but I still want more
