    blog/photo album script

Can anyone recommend a good easy to install and manage photo album script? Basically I'd like to be able to upload photos, point the script to a directory, and say "make this a gallery"

If the software was part of a blog script that'd be cool too.

I don't want something remotely hosted either.

I wish I knew of one, I got tired of waiting for something like that, so I am writing my own using ASP.NET.

I have one you can use if you like, it's nothing fancy, you specify the gallery you want to have, it creates a new folder for it, you upload all the images to the folder, then click "create thumbs" and it's all over Also has comments, etc. I'm using it over at http://www.platinum-central.com/gallery/

I think I decided on that same script Gavin... but it looks like you edited the default appearance. The script is called "Gallery" right?

I've written a photo gallery script for my site as well, see how it's implemented at http://www.one-nine.com

I'd be glad to help anyone with their script.

    Gallery was that simple.

The only thing complicated was the install... to do the auto-thumbnails it needed some stuff that wasn't yet installed on my server.

I also like how its integrated with this service that allows you to buy prints of the pics.

I tried gallery, I am sure. Something wouldn't work properly and I got no reply from the forums... can't remember exactly what was broken though...

Ya, documentation on it was spotty or non-existent... but once I got the things installed I'm very very pleased with it. The slideshow functionality, the automatic thumbnails, they photo printing service... all very nice.

Now of course there is a php photoalbum being advertised on the forums... I might check that one out -- since it says it can easily be integrated into VB.

I've also been looking for a script like this. The one that khu19 wrote is exactly what I've been looking for, except I would like it to be in PHP.

    khu 19,

If your script isn't too long and you're familiar with PHP, is there any chance that you could convert it to work in PHP? Is there a way to upload images and attache descriptions/names through a browser?

I'm sorry but I currently do not have the time to convert it to PHP since I have a 9-5 job. If anyone wants to try I would love to help them with it.

John, I have set up two tables: one to store the photograph information and another for the gallery information. PM or post any questions and I'll help as much as I can.

    khu19,

I understand about not having free time. :-) I would be happy to convert it to PHP myself but unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with ASP/.NET.

I remember seeing a utility online that would automatically convert PHP/ASP scripts back and forth a while back. I'm not sure if it is still around or if it even works good but if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know.

If you want I could explain how the script works; maybe then someone could pick it up easier?
