Feeback on website for a small Pre-School / Kindergarten

    Hello,

I designed this website about a year ago for a small pre-school. Their main focus in on early learning and foreign languages / cultures. I'm wondering what I can do to improve the website and make the information more accessible and appealing for new parents. Some of the issues that I think the site has include:

-Front page is too busy. I would like a more clear message

-I'm not sure if the message of "quality academics" is attractive to new parents. I think most parents are looking for a safe, fun, creative, open environment for their kids rather than "top academics". I might need to do some more research.

-The top banner is too busy. There isn't a clear logo or style.

-I don't like the color scheme all that much. I think something more simple would work better.

What do you guys think? Please look at the website from the perspective of a parent looking for a school for their young child. Also, many of the parents may not be the most tech-savy, so accessibility of information and ease is important. I would appreciate any feedback! This was one of the first websites I made as a designer.

    Hii,

You must add your logo as "favicon" of your website.
Content on your website is very messy. You must re-arrange it properly.

Thanks. Does anyone else have any feedback?

I don't want to make a too harsh review, but it looks outdated and the colour combination just does not match at all. Children want a fun and bright world. Not a gloomy slimy place (referring to the background).
This may be an awkward comparison, but get inspired by http://www.enterjustinsworld.com/ . It has nice bright colours and it involves nature + sunshine. Implement some puppies and rainbows .

Also why have you decided to use Trebuchet MS as a typeface? Use something new and rather humanistic instead of geometric.

If you have been on an IRC before or just an online Chat Room then you may have noticed that entire lines of uppercase text tend to yell at the reader. It gives the guests an impression of being forced to join instead of having joy.

Overall the concept is completely off. Yes, the images represent a kindergarten, but that is about it unfortunately.

I hope my feedback hasn't made you all gloomy.

Thanks for the feedback! That is exactly what I was looking for. I agree with you, and I'm grateful for the feedback!

The original design I did was more fun and playful, but the owners wanted something more serious. I think it does need to be more kid-friendly, even though the site is directed at adults.

Ah, so you are dealing with "that" type of clients. I agree with you though. Although adults have a more serious impression, they are looking for something their kid might like and not themselves. They are only a sort of middle-man

The website is sending clear message of what it is intended for , the only thing is it doesn`t look enough appealing whether it`s because of the color combination or too strict font selection so that is by my opinion area where you should do some changes.

It's my first review here. I hope it will be helpfull, and I'm sorry for my language.
In my opinion your website looks bad.
    1. Header - graphic with children looks like a bad quality picture. I suggest change it for something more "professional" (for e.g. browse istock) . In my opinion for SEO purposes you should split header image to few graphics and put them into several <img> tags and give them 'alt' and title attributes (even for national flags).
    2. Menu - drop down list is definitely too big, it should has the same width as the main menu buttons, for longer texts you could make fonts smaller.
    3. Our programs - text color is blending in background.
    4. Parents testimonies - for e.g. on contact page is too long and I can't see "read more" button.
    5. Main page - I really like picture of blackboard. I know that it's could be very difficult, but I think it could be really cool to make menu like this blackboard, with main links on it and sublinks showing somewhere after click...
Maybe you should put main text on the left side with a little bit smaller font and move "Open hours info" from bottom to the right side under "Each Child a Whole World" text with smaller font too?

I'am webdeveloper too, I don't have graphic skills so I hired a graphic designer. Don't take this as an offense but I strongly recommend do the same thing.

I hope my review will be helpful - and remember It's only my opinion.
    Best regards

Because a site like this is pretty strongly related to a specific regional area, it's really important (in my view) to make it really clear from the outset where it is located. I mean, here in Australia, I might stumble on this site and think—Hey, great, I wonder if this school would suit my kid! After digging around a bit (finding my way to the contact page) I find that it's in South Burlington, VT—i.e. on the other side of the world. Outside of the US, abbreviations like VT often don't mean much, either—but it's a common thing for Americans sites to forget that there's actually a big world out there.

So you really should make your location front and center, on the home page, and save people from having to dig around to find out if the site is even relevant to them or not.

    Off Topic:

BTW, what's the deal with the "International" part of the school's name? How can a kindergarten be "international"? Is this a bit like the local US baseball comp being called the "World Series"? Again, I remind you Americans that the US is only a small part of the world.

    1. Simplify your Colour Scheme: You are using Blue, Green and Red as primary colours in your site design. Pick one (blue for communicating comepetency and calm is my recommendation) and use variatons of the colour for your various design elements.
    2. Your Top and Bottom Navigation bars share several menu options. Do not double up on menus
    3. Press section could do with hyperlinks to online articles if any are present. Otherwise great because it confers the feeling that your school is an important part of the community
    4. As mentioned before it is not inherently clear where the school is located. The flags in the header give me the feeling this is an international system of partner schools, slightly confusing on my part.
    5. The testimonials feel weak because it always says "A Parent". It might help to ask community figures as you seem to have strong ties there?
    6. Your header is very busy. I would reduce it to: Logo, School name, + "Early learning academy" your mission statement? ---> Move your curriculum somewhere else into the menu (enrollment sticks out make the menu item "curriculum" and put enrollment as a sub menu)
    7. At the mainpage: Move the picture links up to the top ---> I LOVE THIS: It looks great, it catches my interest and It makes me want to click on it
    8. I saw videos of teaching and kids at the start. Liked it very much. Started reviewing and now I actually canīt find them again because I have no idea where to click. You might want to convert this to one of the Gallery / layout style Links (which you should move to the top as mentioned in 7)

    I hope this helps.
I think you have many right ideas but there is alot of potential to make it fantastic.
