    Hi,
I built the graphics partly by putting tiled bacground images in different table cells.
If this works for all browsers, I might save much dowload-time.
I would appreciate any feedback and comments of how this works on different browsers.
The pages are in norwegian, but the graphics should be international ;-)

    Hi Trond,

Don't worry if you don't get a response that quick - I usually advise giving yourself 24 hours for an answer before asking again.

Unfortunately, although the different backgrounds in table cells is an interesting idea, it simply doesn't work in Netscape. Netscape doesn't understand the 'TD background' command so it's no use.
My 2 Cents (or is that 2.2 Cents including GST?)

    Thanks for your comments BC.
However, my experience is that it works great with Netscape, at least with version 4.06.
I also tried with Opera (I think it was version 3.0), and this did not work, but the persentage using Opera is very small.

    Regards, Trond

    Trond,

I just had a quick look at my Dynamic HTML reference (by Danny Goodman, O'Reillys), and it indicates that you may have varying luck with TD background cells in Netscape; that is, you may have luck with some browsers (4.06 for instance) but not others.

I had a quick look at your site using 4.75 and the backgrounds didn't show up....

Today, I tested with Netscape 4.76, and it worked great.
Does anyone know of a compatibility list for which versions of IE and Netscape can handle graphic table backgrouns?

I just viewed it in NN 4.61. Most showed up, including background graphics in cells, except the one with the Java applet. Got a lot of error messages and then the cell didn't seem to load at all. I have Java enabled and it loaded without problem in IE.

The problem with NS and table backgrounds is this.

You need to define the background in each cell. You cannot simply define a single table background.

For instance. In IE if you say "table background = "car.jpg" then your car picture will be displayed across all the cells in the table.

In NS what will happen is it will try to tile the image separately in each cell so what you will end up seeing is the top left portion of the picture repeated in every cell.

    Go here: Car Example

And view it in both browsers to see what I mean.
