    Dreamweaver vs. Dreamweaver MX

    Hello,
What is the difference between Macromedia Dreamweaver and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX? Which one do you prefer and why?

    Thanks

Dreamweaver MX is the best it beats frontpage even. You just can do so much more with it. Check macromedia.com for a full list of features.

It beat frontpage when it was 2.0.

Yes... I never really liked frontpage at all (maybe it has something to do with being microsoft related...) but I have always liked dreamweaver since I started using it!

DWMX is $200 less than UltraDev was when it was current, and the same price as the regular Dreamweaver when it was current as well. Also, if you're a student, you can pick up Dreamweaver and Flash very cheap. (Last time I checked it was $180 for Flash at my girlfriend's school).

Yes, but having paid $$ for Ultradev I'm not going to go for MX unless I really need to. If there's one thing I hate, it's a forced upgrade.

I code more in Textpad than UD these days anyway

    MX has, over straight DW:

    A completely revamped, intuitive interface.

In built php and CF support.

The ability to create test environments and servers and view "live" scripted stuff

    Great integration with topstyle.

An amazing reference library built in.

The two are barely comparable imho...

Having said that I am now doing pretty much everthing in phped and topstyle now anyway...

    Definitely MX

The new interface is much nicer. The color coding is great, and helps you find errors that are easily overlooked. MX was a big upgrade, much bigger than a lot of programs these days that don't add many new features with the new version.

i love MX - i see it as a best freind more then a program its allways been good to me and we've stuck together throught good times and bad. He's a good mate and ill reccomend the fella to anyone.
He even sings me to sleep some nights
(Well wouldnt go that far but maybe one day) -gone a bit over the top i know lol

P.S - I have never used Frontpage so i cant really comment and i shouldnt think this but i allways see frontpage an an inferior program. When i think of it i think its lame but i shouldnt because iv never really used it. Is it on par with Dreamweaver giving a balanced opinion?
    Thanks
    Brad

Has to be MX but because of the various server-side syntax highlighting

Apart from that, the other feature are purely cannon fodder really
