I'd suggest MT as it lets you get up and running quickly. Plus, Joel's other blogs are MT. I think this is a great idea, though I think the domain should be something easy to remember and to type. Think less about the content and more about the purpose.

Sketch and I started a multi-author tech/business blog with a few folk this month, and the purpose was to get into our heads: our thoughts, perceptions, ideas, etc.

So, "ensight" came naturally. Do something similar, stick with a simple design and let it evolve into something better. Keep it low-pressure and only contribute when you have something worth saying. Be a team

I also like Movable Type very much and use it for my "sort of blog thing" on my website.

OK at last count these are the people who are interested in contributing (not sure means I'm not sure whether you want to contribute):

    Chris82
    Toly
    samsm
    Devilware.net
    netkid (not sure)

To answer questions about content, my idea is for a general PHP blog where related topics are discussed (e.g., PHP-related news, tips, projects to look out for, cool stuff you can do with PHP, direction of PHP, new-fangled technology). Like Jeremy said, it is, to me, essential that authors only post something that is actually worth posting, and there is no pressure to post (because that is a major reason not-so-worthy posts are posted).

netkid: Thanks I appreciate the effort but personally I don't like "phat PHP" because it sounds a little too teenager-ish .

As for the domain name, phpweblog.com is available, as is phplog.com (yes it is "php" and "log", not "blog"). phpblog.net and phpblog.org are available.

Suggestions for a catchier domain name?

If you are looking for a open source php multi author blog then I like Glue. It's what I use and it gives everyone their own page to link to. I believe it's coming up on an update soon.

I think it would be a little hypocritical for you to start a blog site about php if you were using a perl-based blogger.

I also think, if you're going to have a bunch of php-developers intrested in the blog why not organize a group of people (the people who are going to post) help code a full-fledged blogger with more or equal features to that of movabletype.

    My two cents, carry on.

It isn't hypocritical, at least to me. I'm not such a PHP advocate that I forswear other languages and technologies. I'm first and foremost a Java dev - PHP is a side interest.

But I do see your point on how it could cause unnecessary questions when the focus is on PHP.

Jump: thanks but Glue seems to be a free blog hosting site - not a script per se.

    Edit:

Possible blogs to use are: Drupal, b2, Nucleus CMS and MovableType
