Passing variables between frames via URL

I have been able to send variables in the URL of a link between pages no problem but am having a hard time do a similar thinig in a (nested) frames site.

For example i am trying to pass a variable <a href="page.html?thevariable" target="thebottomframe"> but when I try and access the URL of the page (document.location) it drops the "?thevariable" and only returns "page.html". I thought passing variables was easier with frames than from page to page!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    mark

    document.location is not a valid object. It's window.location.
