    lost mysql password, please help

I am using mysql/php on Windows Xp. I tried the suggested method of resetting password in the documentation. But it does not work. This is what I did.

    mysqladmin shutdown.

    mysqld-nt.exe --skip-grant-tables

    mysqladmin -u root password "mysql"

    But I get this error:

'mysqladmin' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

mysqladmin: unable to change password; error: 'You must have privileges to updat
e tables in the mysql database to be able to change passwords for others'

    Please help. What is wrong?

Maybe this is a little drastic but in your case I would do this:
    backup your data folder (databases)

    Reinstall MySQL

But before... dont you remember any of the users? try phpmyadmin with some user to get into the mysql table and change the password.
