I made a logo and saved it as a .gif image. Looked fine in Paint Shop. But, when I uploaded it to the web, it gets all muddy and has a partial grey background when it was originally white.
I've seen it before with gif's, and I think this problem may vary browser to browser. What causes this? Should I avoid gif's and stick with jpg's? If you can take a look to tell me if it is muddy or not, please do.

Thanks.

Looks pretty good for me...
Do you use AOL? It compesses GIF files on download which means they lose quality - I think you need to set it in your AOL options for it not to do this.
However you might be best changing to JPG as all other aol users would have the same problem
Hope that helps!

No aol (Although I did view it via aol on another machine... same thing). I'll try converting it to a jpg and see if the problem goes away. Thanks.

It looks nice, sharp and clean on my side as well. Its always better to save text-oriented logos and logos incorporating photographs as .jpgs since the text will look jagged if saved as a .gif. If you're using a design with a lot of colors and sharp detail though, go with .gif ,since it has a cleaner and clearer output.
I'm using Windows 98 and Internet Explorer 5, if it helps.

I switched to jpg and it looked fine. My browser just didnt like the gif. I've taken it down now while the site is being developed. Thanks all for your feedback.

Ted...check to see if you have your resolution set to 16 bit color. There is not reason for a GIF to look muddy unless you are not using enough colors in the palette.
As a rule, any image that has a photograph or photorealism in it should be a JPG...however, any image that uses large chunks of solid color such as logos or the like should be made into a GIF...Adobe Certified Coldfusion MX 7 Developer
