    Hi --

I was wondering how I can use Photoshop 5 (on a PC) and create mostly text (times new roman, 9 point for example) and have it print out clearly. I tries to uncheck anti-alias and that just seemed to make it look jagged. And using anti-alias, at that small font size made it look blury.

I heard it's possible to create small text and have it clear, I'm just not sure how. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

(p.s. -- I know Quark is much better for this, however, I want to see if it's possible in Photoshop!)

Not sure I'm following your exact use for this, but I recommend staying away from using images for text on your site. It will drastically negatively effect your load time.

I tend to use Illustrator for something like this as vector graphics are much more appropriate.

What print resolution are you printing at? Time roman at 9 pts should not be a problem with a good printer. For good quality A4, a resolution of 300 dpi should be ok, of course it also depends on the type of printer.

Photoshop 5 is not too crash hot on large amount of text. Illustrator is more suited. Photoshop 6 is better at text, but no where near quark or illustrator.

If text, for images is such a bad idea, then why do companies such as Apple, Adobe, Dell, Compaq, etc etc all use text headers and such?

    CLARITY!

If you know what you're doing you can optimize a .gif file to 80% dither, then save it as a .jpg from that at 60% quality and shrink the file size by almost half.

You would think that since adobe makes both illustrator and photoshop, they would realise that the users hate the photoshop text options, and make them better, like illustrators...

Have you tried ps6? If you have then you haven't used the text tool.

It is JUST LIKE Illustrator 9.0.
