Question modify an existing pdf form or file using php?

Its easy to see how to create a pdf file using PHP, but modifying an existing one looks very difficult. I have a pdf FORM, that you can fill out and print that I want to fill out using PHP, but I don't see how this is possible, can someone steer me in the right direction? I've looked at the various pdflib functions, and nothing there seems to be able to help me.

Have you looked at the PHP commands for the "Form Data Format?" FDF is a XML format which contains a reference to an existing PDF form and the fields and their values to insert in that form. I've never used it, but I intend to... one day.
