Perhaps this is a newbie question.
While on a virtual host, are there suggestions for backing up a MySQL database? I don't think phpmysqladmin helps.
    Thanks

You could backup the SQL into a text file, then download it off the server. Using this command under telnet:

    mysqldump --user=xxx --opt database > backup-file.sql

Check this link out for further options or use "man mysqldump"

    http://www.mysql.com/documentation/m...tion=mysqldump

You could also put the command into cron and let it send the backup file to you (instead of manual downloading) by email.

    Hope this helps!

Chapter 8 of my tutorial series, "Building a Database-Driven Web Site using PHP and MySQL" explains how to perform backups in detail.
