vBulletin is good because most of the members here want to have a community forum and vbulletin is by far the best script to allow this.

Check out it's features at http://www.vbulletin.com/features/

It is coded in PHP, which already makes it better and faster than any perl/cgi coded board.

I tried *a lot* of other forum scripts and remotely hosted forums before finally breaking down and buying vBulletin. Using it here at sitepointforums.com spoiled me -- I wanted to have all these features and none of the others came close. It's supereasy to install and manage, too. That in itself is worth the $160 price tag. I had more than $160 worth of aggrivation trying to get other forums to work!!!

Forget it, UB2K can't even compare to vB. It lacks in features, it gets engulfed by the almighty vBulletin.
