hosting companies and PostgreSQL
I wonder why more than 90% of all hosting companies offer Mysql but not PostgresSQL or both.
this is not a MySQL vs. PostgreSQL thread...
I just want to know...

It seems it's a case of horses for courses. Most sites don't need the benefits of Postgres so MySQL serves fine and it's easier to administrate plus more developers know it better. Postgres does handle larger loads better but it's slower at responding to the sort of level of traffic that most sites experience so obviously the hosting companies are going to go with the needs of the majority.
This is a good balanced view of the pros and cons of both. It's slightly out of date, but covers itself pretty much by noting the two sides' promised future releases (which are now reality).
