    Background image size

Is it better to have a small image that tiles many times but is a small file size or a larger image that does not tile as many times but is a larger file size?

What is the ideal size for fast loading?

On one of my old sites I have images that are 1280 wide but only about 150 tall so they only tile down and not across. On another site I have one that is about 150 X 150 so it tiles over and over both ways but is tiny in file size.

Usually I try to avoid them altogether but one of my sites has people complaining that it's dull and needs more graphics to liven it up.

Try and find other ways to liven it up, adding a huge background image wont beat a nicely done header.

But if you have no choice, use the smaller one.
