How do I create a newsticker in Flash that contains hyperlinked text and flows from right to left?

    Thanks in advance

Well, there are a number of ways. The easies is to just have a movie clip with a bit of text in it. You can put hyperlinks in text, at least in flash 5 and up. Then just animate that text going by. If you want to step it up a bit, you can have a loop that moves the text programmatically.

Yeah that is what I don't know how to do. I just got flash mx, and I understand the lingo but I don't know how to do it and I have looked everywhere to find a tutorial on this but I have been unsuccesful. I just want to be able to to link to a .txt file and have it flow horizontally.

Hmm. OK, linking to a text file is a little harder, but not too much. But I'd suggest learning the basics, if you've just started with flash. Go through the tutorials and stuff.

But on to your question. First, use the loadVars function to load the text file into a variable in your flash file. Then make a "dynamic text" text area, and set its variable equal to the one you read the text into. The text can have HTML links, I think, just in the text file. Then set the position of the text field, and move it by a set amount every frame using the enterFrame event. When it goes too far, reset the position to the beginning. That way it'll just keep scrolling by...

I'd suggest picking up Colin Moock's guide to actionscript from O'Reilley books, or something like that. It really helps you get the fundamentals of programming Flash.

There is already a premade ticker, which can be skinned in one of the two free component sets from Macromedia. It does vertical and horizontal scrolling.
