    PHP/MySQL software for testing on desktop.

    Is there any free software I can run off my desktop to test my PHP scripts without having to upload to a server and possibly a MySQL db as well?

    Try one of these:

    * FoxServ (http://www.foxserv.net) -- FoxServ is an extremely handy
    tool for first-time users to get Apache / MySQL / PHP / Perl up and
    running quickly,particularly for Windows servers.

    * PHPTriad (http://sourceforge.net/projects/phptriad) -- PHPTriad
    installs a complete working PHP/MySQL server environment on Windows
    platforms (9x/NT).Installs PHP, Perl, MySQL, Apache, and PHPMyAdmin.

    * Fireserv (http://bandit.myftp.org/gts/Fireserv.exe) is another
    complete server for Windows platform. It installs PHP, Perl, MySQL,
    Apache automatically.

    Id reccomend PHPDev from Firepages.

    Sets up everything and comes with the GD library installed etc.

    If you are running 2000 or XP Pro you can setup IIS on the local machine by running the "add windows components" part of the add/remove programs applet.

    Just make sure you either run the IIS lockdown tool or the machine is behind a firewall or you are a patching monkey. The advantage (*WWB puts on his asbestos suit) is that IIS is a hell of alot easier to administer than Apache if you don't really know what you are doing.
