Probably the easiest question to answer

    Simple Question:

If I'm using Flash on my website, and someone arrives at my site and he doesn't have Flash installed on their computer, what would they see?

I'm planning to purchase a template that uses Flash. And the sellers are saying that the visitor needs Flash 6.0 to view it correctly. What would they see if they didn't have Flash 6.0?

Is Flash installed by default on Windows?

Do you guys recommend using Flash on a membership-based affiliate website?

    Thanks,
    Jimmy.

It'll usually ask them to download flash
There's a pretty high % of people with flash these days, but there's always people who don't

They should be prompted to install it I think.

It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

Flash is a plugin for the browser they use rather than the OS... most of the latest (all the majors) have the ver. 6 included...

...only those who haven't upgraded their browser would still have the lower version

as a point of accessability one could build an entry page in HTML (simple logo/art/basic 'cover sheet' type of thing) with two links - one to an HTML version and one to the flash version

never tried any of those but it crosses my mind that with a template one would have to have Flash to be able to edit the fla file to their particulars and if you don't know it you could get stuck... esp dealing with a *factory* designer

If costs are a major concern...
One solution is to hook up with a talented but not so jaded flasher (read::whizKid) somewhere within one of the forums - one just starting out but knows the stuff

one that comes to mind is a really bright MIT CS/Math major, a kid by name of Rafael Mendiola::

    Hey -

Flash Player 6 comes with all new installations of IE6, Mozilla, Opera 7 and the other Gecko based browsers. I supppose Safari as well?

What happens if someone turns up at your site and has no flash or less than the req. version # depends on how the detection system is setup..
    1. Markup based..
    2. script based
    3. check ver# within Flash using actionscript.

As for recommending Flash usage - that depends on your audience. Are they savvy enough to dload a plugin or will they freak out at having to install something on their computer?

    Cheers
    James
