Remove on date

Hi

I am making a MySql database to manage events. People who submit events will be able to put in on what date the event is taking place.

Is there something I can do that once the event has passed ie. the date of the event has passed the event doesn't show on the site anymore. I would like to make this automatic.

What would be the best way to do this.
