Email search matches to registered users (MS Access/ASP)

    Hello all.

I am about 60% through a development project using ASP and MS Access.

I have a user registration/management system sorted out, as well as a search system.

I want registered users to be able to store a set of search criteria, and to be emailed when a new entry is made into the database that meets their requirements.

Can this be done in Access?

Or will I have to put all the matching/emailing code into an ASP page that is run once a day?

    Many thanks for any pointers.

Sounds like a job for a stored procedure. Which is now supported by Access (as of 2000). Not something I've got much experience in though.

Also, don't forget your global.asa file. You can cheat things like these often, by having them run every time a session is started by a user. It makes it sporadic as to when the script will run, but if you have a decent number of users a day then you know that every time someone visits the site your script will run.

I really didn't know that Access 2000+ supported stored procedures.

Thanks for the pointer, it gives me something to go on.

    Marvellous!

They don't. They support stored queries but not stored procs. Not exactly the same....

    Accepted, but seems close enough.

If I can write a macro in Access to do what I need, I will be happy with that.
