Compiling MySQL

Hi,

I know there are endless advantages to compiling your own version of Apache and PHP so you can enable extensions, create your own functions and have more control over your server but what advantages are there to compiling your own MySQL?

I don't have the need to use any advanced database functions that might be gained but I have no idea what else there could be, if anything.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

The MysQL people recommend you use their binaries, as they are faster and more stable

For maximum stability and performance, we recommend that you use the binaries we provide
