    Question Database-mysql issues

    how do i get the MySQL application to even connect to my own computer?

    I am running IIS 5.1 on windows XP Professional build 2600

    the response to the command "mysqladmin create databasename"
    is:
    cant connect to local host on port 3306 try typing:
    telnet localhost 3306
    ...

    then i do that and my computer refuses it
    there are two ports that it tries to go through :
    3306 to connect
    and
    10061 for querries

    when i type in tlntadmn config port=3306 i get
    please enter an number greater than zero and less than 1024 how do i get it to let me connect on port 3306???

    when you do a netstat -an command, does it show that you have mysql running on 3306?
